Adult Cardiac Arrest (ACLS)
Flowchart
Play
Shockable vs non-shockable → epinephrine cadence + reversible causes.
Decision
Outcome
Decision
Adult in cardiac arrest. First actions?
✓
Start high-quality CPR, oxygen, attach monitor/defibrillator
✗
IV epinephrine before chest compressions
✗
Intubate before CPR
Decision
Initial rhythm?
✓
VF / pulseless VT (shockable)
✓
Asystole / PEA (non-shockable)
Outcome
Defibrillate → CPR 2 min → epi q3–5 min; amiodarone or lidocaine after 2nd–3rd shock
Treat reversible causes (5 H's: hypovolemia, hypoxia, H⁺ acidosis, hypo/hyperkalemia, hypothermia; 5 T's: tension PTX, tamponade, toxins, thrombosis pulmonary, thrombosis coronary).
Outcome
Epinephrine 1 mg IV ASAP, CPR, address reversible causes; no defibrillation
Reassess rhythm every 2 minutes. PEA workup: bedside US for tamponade, PTX, RV strain.
